Something on Yahoo!

I spotted for the first time is that if I wanted a specific search phrase searched to put a "+" sign in front of the search phrase for exact results. That was new to me - perhaps it's been there for a long time but I've failed to see it, much less try it. I did and it worked like a charm. Disillusioned with Google searches? Does it seem that what comes up are directory after directory rather than specific companies? Why do I have to search for a keyword phrase
and then search further inside a directory, which often are a jumbled mess. I don't know how all this is going to flush out, but one thing I read on Market Watch this morning is that because of the high price of Google ads (pay per click advertising) some megalithic sized companies spending millions on advertising are now looking to shift money back into print ads versus
Google PPC. Why? Bidding cost per click for particular keywords and phrases has skyrocketed and that would be okay but the scanty results some companies are getting has put the cost of advertising at a whopping 40% of their product. Google is making huge profits but one thing to praise is that they have just moved into the #1 spot as far as the Best Company to work for.

There's a new search engine called WINZY - love the name and the concept in that users have
chances to winzy a prize by using the SE. I did a basic search and didn't get good results so I'll wait on this one until the database catches up to the catchy name!
The Niche Market of Industry Specific Search Engines is on the rise - I personally have spent money researching how to build out a SE for this purpose - Biz 2 Biz and Biz to Consumer want relevant results quickly without frustration from sifting through copious directories. While I'm talking about my wish list, I want results that I can read. How about an English only Search Engine? That's getting to be a huge issue now that search engines are flooded with foreign
language results.

--Viktorya
Most Effective dates to Email newsletters

I received Catherine Seda's newsletter - oops, I got it on Monday -
I clicked through to her blog and read an entry she made in Sept 06 about the best days for sending out email newsletters. According to an eROI study, the hightes open rate is Tuesday, second best day is Sunday, worst - Saturday.
My company, Go Traffic Interactive, based out of Napa and Sacramento CA provides email blasts for our clients; we will monitor the results from Cat's advice. Go Traffic Interactive has coast to coast clients - one of the most recent is a cosmetic surgeon with offices in San Franciso and New York. One of our Napa client's, an online wine seller, JV Wine has had tremendous success from our email blasts.
Cat's article has merit. Read on... Thanks! Viktorya
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------
Saturday, September 30, 2006
What's the Best Day to Send E-Mail?
Want to improve your e-mail open and click rates? Consider changing your broadcasting schedule. Simply sending your message out on a different day of the week could raise your recipients’ response. According to an eROI study of approximately 100 million marketing e-mail messages sent between January and March 2006, those received on Tuesday had the highest open rate (26.4 percent). Sunday was second best (25.9 per-cent). The worst day? Saturday, at 24.1 percent.
Remember, an open rate only means your e-mail is being seen, not necessarily clicked. Here, Monday ranked last (4.5 percent). Marketing e-mails received on Tuesday and Sunday boasted the highest click rates of the week (6.2 percent and 6.6 percent, respectively). Because they scored highest in the open-and click-rate categories, consider testing these days. But don’t forget to consider your audience— Tuesdays may be better for reaching the at-work crowd, but Sundays may work for reaching those at home. Of course, the ultimate statistics to consider are your sales. Knowing which day more customers click your e-mail and buy from you is far more important than knowing industry trends. That said, knowing
what generally works for web marketers can certainly start you in the right direction.
Reprinted from Catherine Seda's "When To Send" article in Entrepreneur magazine
Finding Sites Relevant to Search Terms

What goes into making a site search relevant? Words. Robots scan text.

Simple isn't it? Yes, but...
If you want folks to find your site, there are many SEO tactics used. I've been experimenting and getting excellent results with mini-sites and blogs I've been developing. Writing fresh content, Title Tags and link popularity are proof that these strategies work - a blog I launched mid-Nov 2006 has a PR 3 as of 10 Jan 07. WOW!!!

What's the scoop?

A relevant domain name sure helps.

Title tags with relevant keywords are urber important.

Content matched to Title Tags - need I say more???

Relevant words about the Site's reason for being live.

All good stuff but now visitors are on the site, great, but are they going to stick?

Stickiness has to do with a user finding you from their search and that you are the site to satisfy their purpose - they stay and cruise through. Hopefully they perform your goal - fill out a lead form, contact you, buy a product, download information, etc. Keep in mind when you are developing copy

Users SCAN words

Bullets are good

Hyperlinks are excellent - they can be the path to conversion

Bold text is nice

Messaging buttons with words -

Contact Us.

Add to Cart.

Need Directions?

Store Locator.

Pretty easy to get the gyst, isn't it? There's more, much more. Check back or sign up as a subscriber to this blog for more information about professional search engine copywriting and relevant words.

**Viktorya is an artist, SEO copywriter, Blog designer and contributor, and co-owner of the advertising
agency Go Traffic Interactive in Napa and Sacramento CA.
Relevant Domains Boost Search Relevance

MY DOMAIN STORE AND HOW IT HAPPENED!

Domain Web Spinner

Finding just the right domain name for a Biz can be the KEY to opening more searches. Often in my biz when a new client signs on, one thing I do is search for a domain name that works for their business but also has keywords for their business right in the domain name. This has become a game for me - one that is much like playing scrabble. Of course, relevancy has to show up on the website content tied to Title Tags, Meta Descriptions and Keyword buckets, but having a domain name that is relevant with highly searched keywords really helps.

For instance, this blog, RelevantWords.com was launched in November 2006 and by January 2007, it had a page rank of 3. Granted the links to and from the site are boosting that number, and add to that the fact that the content is freshened often and the Title Tags are well chosen. The distilled essence of this blog is also the domain name -- Relevant Words.

But it was from playing around time and again, looking for just the right words for domain names that actually put me in the mood to start selling domains. So prior to finding the domain name for the store, I searched on Yahoo! and Google and made sure there were paid ads on the pages with the keywords Domain and Web. Combining those searches, I
came up with Domain Web Spinner. I really loved the association of the word Spinner being relative
to the Internet - Spiders Spin Webs, and Spiders crawl text. DELICIOUS ISN'T IT???? Add to that whole series of fun choices to the fact that I have been in love with fiber and all the tactile memory of it for many years. Joy! Oh, I lovewords, and could go on and on about this. But here's the link to my Domain Store called Domain Web Spinner. If you want a blog like this one where you are right now -- RelevantWords.com it's totally easy!!!

Just do this! Go to my store and search for a domain name that's relevant to your cause, product, service, family life, vacation spots, whatever it is you want to talk about, sell or provide, purchase the domain and the blog is quick and very easy to set up... The link is Domain Web Spinner.

Pretend you're playing scrabble, mix up some letters to see what you can come up with. At times I have actually pulled the scrabble game off the shelf, set up that handy wooden tray, added some lettertiles and starting playing around. Try it!! It's fun!!!!

**Viktorya is an artist, SEO copywriter, Blog Designer, Contributor, and co-owner of the advertising
agency Go Traffic Interactive in Metropolitan Sacramento, Napa and Bay Area San Francisco.
Content Development delays Website Production

My experience is that website production is regularly delayed because website content is not developed timely. At times clients shave off copywriting fees as a way to decrease their overall website budget, intending to develop copy themselves. Some are successful and do a great job! However, some of these very busy people who are running businesses don’t have the time it takes to write their content -- website production stops and can be delayed for months. Writing effective website copy is an intricate process.

You have to write to a target audience

Employ marketing and search engine strategies

Excite the user about products and services

Devote time in this hugely time consuming endeavor

I am a business owner and know full-on the old true adage -- Time is money. Business owners and managers would be money ahead to hire a professional copywriter for their project, get their website launched and start receiving a return on their website investment. They would have time to further their business and not take that time to try and develop website content. As an owner of an advertising agency, I have similar situations where I have to hire professionals to do certain projects so they can perform high-quality work while I manage my business. With that said, here are some guidelines for clients who plan to write website copy. This is A Letter to My Client as follows:

Dear Client:
Here are some guidelines and hints for writing copy for your website. Please look at the staged development site or print out:
• Website comps (Home, Index and Sub pages)
• Site Map
• Meta Data (Title Tags with keywords)

View the overall concept keeping in mind that the Site Map is the website guide — every page is
described on it so you can see the very architecture of the website we are building out for you. Our goal for any website visitor is to have a good experience -- we like to follow Steve Krug's sensible copywriting approach of Don’t Make Me Think. This goes hand in hand with Usability Best Practices and effective Search Engine Optimization.
Easy Navigation includes:

o Hyperlinks from home to interior pages
o Use of bullets where appropriate
o Bold text as appropriate

Compelling and informative copy

o Message benefits to Contact Us for Our Services and/or Products
o Move the user along to the intended goal of filling out a lead form

Meta data
<div style="margin-left: 40px; Use keywords in headlines, sub-headlines if possible

The numbers of pages on the site that you need to develop copy for are:

• Home Page
• Index Pages
• Sub Pages
• Contact Us –lead form fields need to be relevant to what information you want the user to send
• Privacy Policy

Write copy for one page at a time; look at the development site or the printed comp design layout
and match your content to the layout for each page.
